Chris works primarily with watercolors on paper, using multiple applications of washes and overlays to create patterns. He uses traditional watercolors, applying washes/shapes to paper using a brush, allowing them to dry, then repeating the process many times to create his abstractions. Larger works on paper may have 5,000+ overlapping individual color cells.

Crossen's work engages deeply with color and pattern. His paintings arise from a desire to capture and explore elemental forms within basic compositions, experimenting with the interplay between continuity and natural processes.Inspired by landscapes around the world, including his Lake Tahoe home, he employs various watercolor and acrylic techniques to explore abstraction.

Chris lives in Truckee with his wife and two sons. He spends as much time as possible exploring the mountains, lakes, and rivers surrounding his Tahoe studio.

Chris's work will hang for the month of August and September!
