Join us on Friday October 6th from 5:00-8:00pm for First Friday with artist Hannah Viano

Hannah Viano is a paper cut artist who strives towards artwork and projects that mix art, natural, history and education in a way that helps to foster sense of place and an appreciation for our natural world.

In my artwork I cut pieces away from a sheet of black paper to reveal an image. Using a dance of positive and negative space I carve out the organic curves of water, mountains, sky, and try to capture the things that make a place and time unique. Working with simple tools allows me to keep the work in my own hands while creating modern, graphic images.

My projects strive to combine science, art, and natural history in ways that fosters appreciation for our environment, kindle curiosity and develop sense of place. Beyond my framed papercut art pieces, this comes to life in picture books, teaching residencies, and public art projects.

This exhibit features images from my recently released illustrated journal Weathering, that plays with themes of storm and sky in different landscape and encourages the idea that the written word can help us through times of tempest and also document the wonders of our every day.

This First Friday, we will be celebrating the new release of Hannah's Weathering Journal. Hannah will be joining us to perform a paper cutting demonstration and sign books.

Come meet the artist, enjoy live music from Dan Copeland, as well as drinks and refreshments.
